You can find all the answers in our short Translation Memory Technology Overview.
The difference between ABBYY Aligner and computer aided translation tools is in their purposes.
Computer aided translation tools (CAT-tools) and Translation Memory systems allow executing TM base search, finding repeated segments in new texts and replacing them with translations taken from previously translated texts. The larger the volume of TM base, the faster and easier the work of translator becomes. Some CAT-tools include instruments for alignment, but generally they are inconvenient and have low quality of alignment, making mistakes while juxtaposing fragments of texts. That is why parallel text processing becomes an effortful task while using CAT-tools for alignment.
ABBYY Aligner is a tool specially developed for fast and comfortable work with parallel texts which enables quick and easy creating of Translation Memory databases. Easy-to-use interface, high quality of alignment, special mode for batch alignment ensure efficient and comfortable work while processing parallel texts.

The term “line” in ABBYY Aligner is used to mean an element of aligned parallel text which consists of a fragment of a source text paired with the matching fragment of the translation text. |

If you have a Volume-limited License ABBYY Aligner calculates the number of exported lines and subtracts it from the total number of lines which the license allows you to export. Once you have used up your line limit, export to TMX and RTF is impossible. Learn more about Licenses >> |
ABBYY Aligner can align texts in ordinary and batch modes. There are some differences in the appearance of the graphical user interface depending on which alignment mode is being used:
