ABBYY Lingvo Dictionaries for iOS

The application provides more than 250 general bilingual, specialist, explanatory and other types of dictionaries for 30 languages with a total of 96 language combinations supported. Included are European languages, Chinese, and some less common languages such as Latin, Tatar, and Kazakh. The number of available dictionaries will continue to grow.

Lingvo Dictionaries 2.0 is a unique combination of ABBYY’s revolutionary OCR technologies and dictionary content, which allows users to translate unknown words by just taking photos of them. Photo translation function on the Apple iPhone is based on the internationally acknowledged recognition technologies of ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine and supports instant translation of words for 27 European languages including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Greek and more.

Lingvo generates a list of entries from all the installed dictionaries for the selected language pair. If a word is found in multiple dictionaries, the application displays all the relevant entries in a single window. The dictionary entries provide detailed information about words, including translations, usage examples, phonetic transcriptions, audio pronunciation (requires sound files to be downloaded and installed) and inflected forms of words.

Lingvo Dictionaries application supports hypertext and allows users to get instant translation of any word found in the dictionary entries with just a single tap.
