Question: How can I access the Help file?
Answer: To open ABBYY PDF Transformer Help, do one of the following:  

• click Start and select Programs -> ABBYY PDF Transformer 1.0 -> ABBYY PDF Transformer Help;
• in any dialog box, click "?" in the upper right-hand corner;
• in the Options dialog box, click Help. 

Question: What are the restrictions of ABBYY PDF Transformer Try&Buy?
Answer: The Try&Buy version of ABBYY PDF Transformer 1.0 allows you to process only a limited number of documents:  

• You can process a maximum of 15 files;
• You can process no more than three pages of a single PDF document.

Question: What is ABBYY PDF Transformer?
Answer: ABBYY PDF Transformer is a new PDF processing utility from ABBYY. The product provides easy and instant conversion of any PDF file into editable formats, such as Microsoft® Word, Excel, HTML, and TXT. It is an efficient and powerful tool which accurately converts PDF files into editable formats without the need of retyping or reformatting.

Question: What output formats does ABBYY PDF Transformer support?
Answer:

• Microsoft Word Document (DOC) - Microsoft Word 2003/XP/2000;
• Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet (XLS) - Microsoft Excel 2003/XP/2000;
• Rich Text Format (RTF) - Microsoft Word 2003/XP/2000;
• Plain Text (TXT). ABBYY PDF Transformer supports ANSI encoding;
• HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), Unicode HTML 4.0. 

Question: Can I install ABBYY PDF Transformer on several workstations?
Answer: You may install and use one copy of ABBYY PDF Transformer only on one computer. If you wish to install and use the software on another computer, you must first remove the program from the original computer. If you wish to use ABBYY PDF Transformer on several workstations simultaneously, you must buy additional licenses.

Question: What kind of PDF files can ABBYY PDF Transformer process?
Answer: The program allows you to open and convert PDF files of version 1.5 or earlier and supports the following types of PDF files:

• Page image only;
• Text over the page image;
• Text under the page image;
• Text and pictures only.

Question: Where does ABBYY PDF Transformer place the pictures when saving in HTML? 
Answer: When saving in HTML, ABBYY PDF Transformer creates additional JPG files in the same folder which contains the main HTML document.

Question: Can I save only the text of a PDF file, without the formatting?
Answer: Yes. Select Remove all formatting in the Output Document Layout section of the Options dialog box.

Question: Does ABBYY PDF Transformer support hyperlinks?
Answer: No, ABBYY PDF Transformer 1.0 cannot convert hyperlinks.

Question: When I try to open a PDF file in Microsoft Word an error message appears. However, I can save the document as a DOC or RTF file. Why?
Answer: Apparently the Norton AntiVirus plug-in prohibits invoking Microsoft Word from other applications. More information about this problem can be found on the Microsoft Web site. To open your PDF files in Microsoft Word, switch off the Norton AntiVirus plug-in or save PDF files as Microsoft Word documents to the hard drive and then open them.

Question: How can I open the Options dialog box?
Answer:

• When running PDF Transformer from within Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), click the Options button at the bottom of the PDF Transformer window;
• When converting a PDF file from Windows Explorer, select the Options item in the PDF Transformer section of the context menu;
• In the Step 3 dialog box of the ABBYY PDF Transformer Wizard, click the Options button.

Question: How can I select conversion languages?
Answer: You can select two conversion languages (primary and secondary) in the PDF Document Languages section of the Options dialog box.

Question: How can I convert a PDF file attached to an e-mail message?
Answer: Open the e-mail message. Select File -> PDF Transformer... Select the file you wish to convert from the list of attached PDF files and follow the program instructions.

Question: How can I select separate pages of a PDF file in order to convert only selected pages?
Answer: Start the ABBYY PDF Transformer Wizard (Start -> Programs -> ABBYY PDF Transformer 1.0). In the Step 3 dialog box, select Pages and enter the numbers of the pages you wish to convert.

Question: Can ABBYY PDF Transformer process several files simultaneously?
Answer: No, ABBYY PDF Transformer cannot process several files simultaneously.

Question: How can I change the interface language of ABBYY PDF Transformer?
Answer: The user interface language is set up during installation. To change the interface language, remove the program from your machine, then start installing the program and select the required interface language in the very first dialog box.

Question: What is the maximum number of pages in one PDF file that the program can process?
Answer: One PDF file can contain no more than 9,999 pages, otherwise you will not be able to process it with ABBYY PDF Transformer.

Question: How can I suppress the message saying that the Normal.DOT file will be changed?
Answer: In Microsoft Word, select Tools -> Options -> Save and clear the Prompt to save Normal template box.

Question: When I close Microsoft Word I receive a message saying that the Normal.DOT file will be changed. Why?
Answer: During installation ABBYY PDF Transformer places its icon on the Word toolbar. Information about the toolbar is stored in the Normal.DOT template, which you must update when making changes to the Word toolbar.

Question: During installation I see a warning message asking me to close some of the running applications. I have closed the applications, but the warning message appears again. How can I finish the installation?
Answer: Cancel the installation, close all the running applications and re-start the installation process. If you see the warning message again, do the following:

1. Open Task Manager.
2. On the Processes tab, select the image name of the application that you must close.
