What is Translation Memory and how it Works?

A Translation Memory (TM) is a database containing original and translated texts that are divided into segments and juxtaposed the way their content matches. High-quality juxtaposition – or alignment – of this kind and saving results into ready-to-use TM databases is what ABBYY Aligner 2.0 has been designed for.

TM databases are used by translators within computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, which find repeated segments in new texts and replace them with segments from previously translated texts that are stored in TMs.
