DevOps Engineer

ABBYY North America is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Client Experiences team. The chosen candidate will have a proven track record of building high volume, high performance, and high availability systems. They are passionate about automation and infrastructure/configuration as code and love working on small teams with a lot of responsibility, wearing several different hats, and successfully completing multiple projects at the same time. The candidate needs to be dependable, reliable, and able to tackle complex issues with a strong sense of urgency and ownership. They should enjoy being on the front-lines for critical infrastructure issues and will research and advocate for the best tools and technology for both the present and the future. 

Key Responsibilities

The DevOps Engineer will design and implement: build, deployment, and configuration management on a project. They will build and test automation tools for infrastructure provisioning in addition to testing implemented designs. Additionally, the chosen candidate will build, maintain, and monitor configuration standards; handle code deployments in all environments. The DevOps Engineer is also expected to monitor systems and metrics in addition to troubleshooting and resolving issues with applications and implemented cloud solutions, evaluate new technology options, suggest architecture and process improvements, and ensure critical system security through the use of best in class cloud security solutions.

 

We are looking for someone to work from our offices in Milpitas, CA – however we will consider a remote candidate.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Education:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field

 

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with using a broad range of AWS technologies or similar with a focus developing and maintaining a cloud based solution with a focus on best practice cloud security
  • Deploying, automating, maintaining and managing AWS cloud or similar based production systems, to ensure the availability, performance, scalability and security of productions systems
  • Build, release and configuration management of production systems
  • Pre-production Acceptance Testing to help assure the quality of products / services
  • System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains
  • Suggesting architecture improvements, recommending process improvements
  • Evaluate new technology options and vendor products
  • Ensuring critical system security through the use of best in class cloud security solutions

 

Skills:

  • Solid experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 uptime Amazon AWS or similar environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools
  • Scripting Skills: Strong scripting (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Perl) and automation skills
  • Manage Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment tools within the team
  • Operating Systems: Windows and Linux system administration. 
  • Monitoring Tools: Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios). 
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve complex infrastructure resource and application deployment issues.

Desired Skills:

  • OO Programming Skills: Strong OO Programming skills (Java or C#).
  • DB Skills: Basic DB administration experience (Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, MS SQL).
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience with Agile software development, project management methodologies.
  • Version Control: Experience administrating version control systems such as SVN.
  • Networking: Understanding network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP).
  • Professional commitment to high quality, and a passion for learning new skills.
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to rapidly learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including providing simple solutions to complex situations.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a geographically disperse working environment.
