PreSales Engineer, Japan

ABBYY is looking for a PreSales Engineer to join our office in Shinyokohama, Japan. Reporting to the Senior Manager for Customer Experiences, the PreSales Engineer works alongside the local sales team and development/marketing team in Russia to create the optimal experience for potential and current customers. This position handles professional technical communications, including correspondence, presentations, demonstrations, and technical training.

 

The PreSales Engineer must have a strong technical background, with experience programming and a high level of ingenuity to troubleshoot and help develop best practices for customer applications using ABBYY products. There can be instances of creating workarounds for software issues, as well as involvement in development projects to create applications that enhance the support return time for customer inquiries. The ability to understand a customer or partner use case at an infrastructure, architectural, and design level is key for this role.

 

Our ideal candidate is a master of time management and fluent in both Japanese and English. The position will work from the Shinyokohama office. Relocation assistance is not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a consultant during the pre/post-sales staged alongside the sales teams, to present and demonstrate advanced product features and benefits, as well as future product direction, to customers and partners, and provide technical professional communication to potential customers.
  • Serve as a trainer for ABBYY’s products
  • Involvement in development projects to help create applications to enhance the support return time in answering customer questions and issues
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of ABBYY products, services, system configuration, internal processes and industry best practices
  • Work independently and lead discussions with other cross-functional teams including and not limited to Sales, Presales, Development Engineers, and Product Management
  • Work with the Customer as a trusted advisor. Be an advocate for the Customer within ABBYY.
  • Manage multiple concurrent cases and prioritize appropriately while working under pressure with a significant workload
  • Drive creation of internal best practices, methodologies, templates tools, utilities and processes for appropriate standardization of engagements and integrations
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel will be required.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Mandatory Skill Sets and Qualifications

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience in role of industry: 3 – 10 years
  • PreSales role: Over 1 year
  • Software programming: Over 2 years
  • Industry knowledge: Experience with and knowledge of OCR, data capture products, and/or other imaging related/recognition related technologies
  • IT knowledge: Networking, security, permissions, and OS structure
  • Communication: Excellent customer facing and personal interaction skills, patience and good listening skills, ability to capture key information from conversations, and excellent speaking and presentation skills
  • Time management: Must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, manage multiple concurrent cases and prioritize appropriately, and work under pressure with a significant workload.
  • Languages: Fluency in Japanese and English
  • Ability to grasp product and technical knowledge quickly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent work ethics and highly motivated

 

Desired Skills

  • Industry: Experience with working in MFP/scanner industry or document management solution considered a plus
  • Software: Experience with document management software considered a plus
  • Programming: Experience programming in C, C++ and Java. C#, Android, iOS, cloud, and web services are preferable
  • Languages: Fluency in Chinese and/or Russian on a business level considered a plus
