Company Completes Extensive Audit of Data Security and Privacy Policy Professional Standards to Earn Prominent Industry Certification

ABBYY® USA, a leading global provider of document recognition, data capture, and linguistic technologies and professional services, today announced the successful completion of their AT 601 HIPAA compliance examination. Performed by an independent auditing firm in accordance with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE), ABBYY’s data security practices and systems, and privacy policies were extensively tested to ensure compliance with the security and breach notification requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Service Organization Controls (SOC) 2.

“As information increasingly moves to digital formats it is becoming more important than ever that strict security practices are followed,” said Frank Patchel, chief finance officer at ABBYY USA. “Successfully achieving compliance with HIPAA and SOC 2 not only shows current and prospective customers how seriously we take security and privacy, but validates that the technologies we provide to them are of the highest quality when it comes to protecting sensitive information.”

The examination, performed by Denver-based CPA firm Linford & Co. LLP, focused on ABBYY USA’s assertion about compliance with the security and breach notification requirements of HIPAA. ABBYY USA was cleared for compliance after successfully managing more than 180 action items spanning in 23 control areas across company departments.

ABBYY data capture and optical character recognition technologies, such as ABBYY FineReader, ABBYY FlexiCapture and ABBYY Recognition Server enable organizations globally to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve information flow for better decision making. In some cases, this can include the management of protected health information (PHI) requiring strict data security and privacy measures be in place.
