Students and Faculty of Top Universities Invited to Register for Free Copy of Award-Winning Translation Software

ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today announced that it will donate 250 copies of its English-Russian Lingvo electronic dictionary product to faculty and students at top learning institutions across the country. The first 250 teachers and students to register for the program will be eligible for the complimentary software.

Containing over 2.5 million entries and 50 dictionaries, including electronic versions of the most authoritative printed dictionaries, ABBYY Lingvo electronic dictionaries provide instant and accurate translation of words and phrases between 11 different languages.

“I highly recommend Lingvo for both students and practitioners, and use it personally as a T&I professional and teacher," said Rosa Kavenoki, Head of the Russian program of the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (affiliated with Middlebury College). “As the only school in the United States offering a Masters Degree in translation, interpretation, and localization management, the materials we work with often include complex and technical content. The advanced features in Lingvo help me to provide students with a thorough understanding of the word equivalents and context impacts, in the process of introducing texts in a classroom. I am also impressed with the advanced legal dictionary and the inclusion in Lingvo of the well-known Americana reference book, which explains in Russian the American cultural history not found in bilingual dictionaries available in the market."

In addition to providing the ability to search and translate words or phrases instantly using a wide range of general-purpose dictionaries, ABBYY Lingvo also delivers versatile and up-to-date vocabulary covering different domains of knowledge, professional and business language. ABBYY Lingvo can be installed on a desktop PC, notebook, PDA or smartphone, allowing users to translate texts and study language anywhere, any time.

“Software that performs at any time and place with consistent scope, accuracy and ease-of-use is a must for students and educators alike,” said Merle Tenney, director of product marketing, linguistic products. “With ABBYY Lingvo electronic dictionaries, powerful and intuitive language research and translation functionality is available at the touch of the fingertips.”
