First Dynamic Data Capture Solution to Automatically Process Multiple Document Types in a Single Stream

ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today announced FlexiCapture 8.0 Professional, a dynamic data capture solution that intelligently automates data extraction from any type of paper form or document without the need for manual pre-sorting or manual keying. FlexiCapture 8.0 extracts data from structured forms, semi-structured forms, unstructured documents and any combination of several document types, and efficiently provides accurate data for input into databases and a variety of business systems and processes. An easy-to-deploy, cost-effective yet powerful desktop solution, ABBYY FlexiCapture 8.0 Professional is designed to meet organizational and departmental paper-processing needs in a variety of industries including banking, insurance, education, healthcare, accounting, legal, and many more.

“Over 70 percent of business transactions are still conducted via fax and paper documents, and many organizations still rely on manual data entry and processing which are both error-prone and costly,” explained Aram Pakhchanian, chief product manager at ABBYY. “In fact, recent analyst reports claim that organizations in the United States spend $15 billion a year manually keying data from forms alone. FlexiCapture 8.0 provides powerful tools which not only automate these processes, but are extremely easy to install and use.  Its intuitive interface provides graphical tools and straightforward access to advanced capabilities which will allow organizations to greatly improve organizational productivity while reducing costs.”

FlexiCapture 8.0 provides easy-to-use, but powerful design tools which enable creation of flexible document descriptions, FlexiLayouts, and new forms. Document descriptions allow the system to automatically identify any multi-page document type, including unstructured documents and attachments, in a stream of various documents and capture the relevant data and text. A FlexiLayout uses logic and set of hypotheses to accurately locate data fields despite their varied locations on different semi-structured documents.

FlexiCapture 8.0 uses Intelligent Document Classification technology to automate the sorting of mixed batches of documents, including appendices and attachments. Intelligent document recognition (IDR) technology and ABBYY’s award-winning recognition technologies for machine print (OCR), handprint (ICR), check and radio group mark (OMR), and barcode recognition together provide comprehensive automation of the data extraction process.  As a result, customers save time and money by reducing the needs for creating, printing and inserting sort pages manually and manual keying.

“We needed to manage the never-ending paper trails of invoices, attached bills of lading, delivery receipts and other shipping documents in order to streamline our real-time audit and payment services and control costs,” said Jay Johnson, IT Director at Trendset, a transportation services company who is an ABBYY customer. “Previously, we were putting a cover page on each set of invoice documents, and separator pages between the actual invoice and its attachments. With FlexiCapture in place, we have gained extra efficiency by reducing the need for sorting and data entry, and have cut our processing time virtually in half. With version 8.0, we will be able to capture detailed data from several-pages tables within complex multi-page documents to further automate our processes and better serve our clients.”

FlexiCapture 8.0 provides an intuitive, customizable interface that guides operators through each processing step. After scanning or importing images from hot folders, FlexiCapture classifies the incoming mix of pages by document type. Then data is automatically located, extracted and validated using rules or database look-up. Extracted data is verified and then exported to external databases, files, or business applications and document management systems. Unstructured documents may be saved as searchable PDF/PDF-A files for archiving purposes.

ABBYY FlexiCapture 8.0 is an easy to implement solution that delivers execution of a full range of data-capture capabilities from a single workstation. FlexiCapture supports multi-processor environments and background processing. When processing volume is increased, users can easily scale up by adding additional CPUs. In addition, when used in a local network, FlexiCapture 8.0 allows project batches be split or shared between stations to maximize efficiency. Using industry-standard scripting languages, FlexiCapture can be seamlessly integrated with any type of image sources, backend systems, or databases.

ABBYY FlexiCapture 8.0 Professional is scheduled to be available in summer 2007 and will be sold through ABBYY’s certified network of distributors and resellers. For more information, please visit www.abbyy.com.
