Technology Partnership Enables Fully Searchable Documents Available Anytime, Anywhere

ABBYY, a leading provider of recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today announced that it has formed a partnership with Pixily, an innovative company that provides a simple, intuitive one-of-a-kind service that helps people aggregate, organize and find their documents. Pixily gives small business and consumer customers anywhere, anytime access to their paper documents, and uses the ABBYY FineReader Engine to render these documents fully searchable.

Pixily recognized that while large enterprises have the resources to implement expensive, high-quality enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, many consumers and small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that are drowning in paper have a real need for effective content management but cannot afford traditional solutions. In response, Pixily established an online portal for clients who then can mail in or upload their documents in pre-paid envelopes to Pixily, much like the popular Netflix business model. Pixily then scans, sorts and stores the documents, and employs a Google-like search function powered by ABBYY FineReader Engine SDK that allows customers to benefit from quality searches within their own document archives.

“The key to our solution is optical character recognition (OCR); in order for the search function to work optimally, the OCR has to be incredibly accurate,” said Prasad Thammineni, co-founder and CEO of Pixily. “Many OCR applications have tradeoffs in terms of speed and accuracy, but this is where ABBYY excels. Not only does FineReader deliver quick, easy-to-use and highly accurate search capabilities to our customers, but the ABBYY team has also been a very attentive partner, responding right away if ever we run into any issues.”

Built on the Linux platform, the Pixily service required a compatible OCR SDK. After evaluating a number of OCR vendors on the market, the ABBYY FineReader Engine SDKwas selected as the most agile and consistently accurate OCR SDK on the Linux platform. The ABBYY FineReader Engine SDK delivers a powerful, flexible tool to integrate OCR, barcode recognition and PDF conversion functions into applications running on Linux, as well as the Mac, and Windows operating systems. The SDK provides a wide range of document recognition functions to integrate into a variety of applications including word processors, scanning, archiving, search, document and information management.

“For too long, the consumer and SMB markets have been underserved in terms of access to advanced ECM technology that is both intuitive and precise as well as affordable,” said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY USA. “The ABBYY FineReader Engine SDK is a powerful, flexible and moderately-priced tool that enables developers to integrate extremely accurate OCR into any number of applications, providing an alternative to conventional and often cost-prohibitive ECM solutions. ABBYY ensures that anyone can benefit from enterprise-level search.”
