Passion ignited for purpose-built, thoughtful technology
Shanthi began her career joining an IT services company as a software developer and quickly gained strong foundational exposure to multiple technologies. During her early years, she worked with varied clients and built a robust technical skill set.
When she traveled to the United States for a banking customer, she realized the true value of the solutions her team was building. She saw firsthand the massive difference between older manual processes and the new digitized workflows. This experience ignited her passion for technology, with a committed focus on solving complex customer problems and improving business operations through thoughtful software design.
Path to automation
Over the years, Shanthi moved into designing and implementing robotic process automation (RPA) solutions. She successfully delivered end-to-end intelligent automation projects across the global market, and her portfolio expanded to include chatbots, optical character recognition tools, and diverse software-as-a-service solutions. Through all these projects, she maintained a primary focus on value realization and increased technology adoption for her clients.
She handled large program implementations across different geographies, working extensively with customers from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. As an intelligent automation lead, she delivered complex use cases utilizing optical character recognition (OCR) tools, which introduced her to ABBYY Document AI. Her team leveraged ABBYY to reduce manual effort by more than 90 percent for a major customer within two months. This successful implementation helped shaped her future career trajectory – with ABBYY at the heart of it.
Coming full circle
When Shanthi first used ABBYY’s IDP solutions, she never imagined she would eventually work for the company. This career move, when she transitioned into the role of Product Manager at ABBYY, allowed her to shape the very product that played such a special part in her earlier professional successes.
This April, Shanthi celebrates her one-year anniversary with ABBYY. She describes her journey so far as challenging, memorable, and deeply rewarding. Learning new things every day from her passionate coworkers, Shanthi looks forward to many more successful years ahead as part of Team OneABBYY.
Wisdom for the next generation
Shanthi frequently shares practical advice with younger professionals entering the technology industry. When asked what she would say to her younger self on her first day of work, she shared, “Don’t underestimate what you’re capable of! Always dream a little bigger, take on the challenges trusting your abilities and focus on learning. The people you meet in your earliest years — mentors, peers, supporters, the tough critics — will shape your trajectory in unexpected ways. Seek help and learn passionately in those early years.”
Shanthi advocates for progress over perfection, “Not everything can be done perfectly the very first time. Most career growth comes from making consistent progress, calculative risks, learning from feedback and pivoting and iterating quickly to achieve your goal.”
The changing landscape of technology
The technology industry continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Shanthi observes that professionals are stepping into automation and AI roles with incredible confidence and momentum. This shift brings fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to traditional business problems.
She finds the current landscape incredibly exciting. Professionals are not just entering the technology sector. They are transforming the industry by stepping into strategy, governance, and leadership roles. They now drive key decisions in major organizations and help shape the ethical frameworks surrounding AI.
Finding work life balance
Outside of work, Shanthi maintains a busy schedule filled with activities that help her recharge. Everyone at ABBYY is provided with the option to work remotely or hybrid and build a work schedule that fits their lifestyle through our flexible hours policy. As an early bird, she loves taking long, slow walks around sunrise in her neighborhood or by the beach. She has also practiced yoga and meditation for more than four years. These quiet moments help her unwind and prepare for the day ahead.
Additionally, as part of our Volunteer Time Off program, every ABBYY colleague can take two paid days off every year to contribute to a charity of their choice.
Shanthi volunteers in her neighborhood, helping organize celebrations and events for children. She’s an avid nature lover,and rarely misses an opportunity to hike or travel to new places with friends and family over the weekends.
