ABBYY Announces Winner of its 2025 MVP Hackathon

Naviant’s Health Claims Accelerator cuts manual work by 60%, speeds processing, and delivers $1.6M in annual savings for healthcare payer
ABBYY today announced the winners of its 2025 MVP Hackathon, highlighting innovation from members of the ABBYY MVP Program. Participants in this year’s hackathon included Mark Miller and Travis Spangler (Naviant); Collins Sarmento (Initium SoftWorks LLC); Marcelo Araujo (ABBYY); and Jose García García (Danysoft).
This year’s winning project, Health Claims Accelerator, created by Travis Spangler, VP of Innovation, IDP and Mark Miller, SVP, Strategic Accounts at Naviant, is a Document AI solution that transforms health claim processing. It reduces manual work, speeds up straight-through processing, and integrates seamlessly with adjudication systems. The solution automates the entire claim lifecycle—from document intake and classification to data extraction and is currently available in the ABBYY Innovation Hub.

Built on ABBYY Document AI with pre-configured skills for forms such as CMS-1500, UB-04, and ADA, it uses large language models (LLMs) to produce clean, structured output ready for adjudication. It helps high-volume healthcare payers move beyond outdated OCR, reduce processing costs, and adopt secure, scalable automation.
It is estimated that customers that use the Health Claims Accelerator can achieve significant operational gains, including the ability to process more than 35 million pages annually, automate over 50 document types, and reduce manual touchpoints by 60% or more. These improvements translate to faster claims processing, fewer errors, and enhanced member experiences, delivering more than $1.6 million in annual savings for a healthcare payer.
The MVP community is foundational to ABBYY’s innovation engine. Every time an MVP uses ABBYY Document AI to solve a real business challenge, our customers benefit. Their innovations reduce complexity, accelerate automation, and help organizations achieve meaningful results. That’s the power of the MVP program—it turns expertise into customer impact.
Alicja Wolanczyk, Head of Partner Strategy and Alliances at ABBYY
Winning the ABBYY MVP Hackathon validates our commitment to reshaping how the healthcare industry manages and automates the processing of claims. By combining Naviant’s deep industry expertise with ABBYY’s purpose-built AI, the Health Claims Accelerator dramatically reduces manual touchpoints and prepares data for adjudication with exceptional accuracy. This is the kind of innovation that empowers payers and third-party administrators to scale without adding staff while improving member experiences across the board.

Although the winning use case was built for healthcare claims, the solution can be used for many types of documents, including enrollment forms, correspondence, remittance advice, credentialing materials, invoices, disbursements, and risk-adjustment documents, enabled by ABBYY’s pre-trained models and high-accuracy extraction.
The ABBYY MVP Program recognizes developers, tech leaders, partners, customers, and practitioners who actively use and advocate for ABBYY technology, accelerating the adoption of ABBYY’s purpose-built AI solutions through its Innovation Hub. It gives members early access to new AI capabilities, influence on product direction, and opportunities to share their solutions globally. Winning projects gain additional visibility through ABBYY newsletters, webinars, and social media. The annual Hackathon challenges MVPs to create practical automation solutions, judged on business impact, real-world applicability, ABBYY product use, clarity, and potential for reuse, showcased via short demos and presentations.
The MVP Class of 2026 will be announced the week of January 19, 2026, with Partner Awards to follow in early February. Applications remain open through December 31.
