Company Opens Kanata, Ontario Office, and Announces Canada Country Manager

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture, linguistic technologies and professional services, today announced a new office in Kanata, Ontario and the appointment of Brian Mackintosh as the ABBYY Canada Country Manager. Representing the first steps in the Company’s Canadian expansion, ABBYY is looking to support the document management and data capture needs of Canadian partners and customers in the enterprise and SMB markets, as well as federal and provincial governments. ABBYY Canada plans to hire field sales and technology support staff in the coming quarters to facilitate growth within the region.

“Canadian government and business leaders face extraordinary challenges in meeting the increasing financial ROI and expansion demands placed on them by their constituents. This is complicated in Canada by an increasingly multi-lingual society, requiring a deep understanding of the cultures and languages that make the country the dynamic market it is,” said Steve Kincade, vice president, channels North America of ABBYY USA. “ABBYY solutions support more than 180 languages, enabling customers from all over the world to exploit the benefits of ABBYY technology. We believe Canada’s business and government leadership will recognize the value ABBYY represents and will quickly embrace solutions from ABBYY and ABBYY Certified Partners in Canada.”

ABBYY has already established a core group of certified Canadian partners, including Fujitsu Canada and Xerox Canada. Encouraged by the region’s past success, ABBYY will work to provide deeper and broader support to its Canadian partners, helping them to rapidly increase revenues and deliver meaningful solutions to their customer base.

“As a Canadian distributor for ABBYY products, we are pleased to see ABBYY’s increased commitment to our marketplace with the opening of a Canadian office,” said John Hay, vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Canada. “Having a local presence will allow ABBYY to better serve our valued reseller partners and expand the document imaging business in Canada.”

The new Canadian office will be located at 555 Legget Drive in Kanata, Ontario. The office is a part of Kanata Research Park, the largest commercial business park in the Ottawa region with more than 500 acres. This location gives ABBYY direct access to many of its potential partners and customers, and provides the company with space to grow.

Driving ABBYY’s growth in Canada, Brian Mackintosh will serve as the company’s Canada Country Manager. Brian’s primary responsibilities will include ensuring the satisfaction of ABBYY Canada’s Partners and their customers, and building a powerful Canadian division. Brian is a Canadian-born and based business professional, earning his Bachelor of Technology Degree in Applied Computer Science from Ryerson University. Since that time, he has worked in a wide variety of software and IT related companies serving Canada’s private and public sectors.

“Our primary goals for ABBYY Canada are to fulfill our customers’ needs, and earn the reputation as the leading provider of document conversion, data capture and linguistic software to the public and private sectors across Canada,” said Brian Mackintosh. “Throughout my career in the Canadian technology sector, I have worked with several organizations that utilize ABBYY technologies. I have always been impressed with ABBYY’s mission to improve personal and business life by developing artificial intelligence technologies for efficiently capturing, translating, and transforming information into accessible, useful data. I believe the rest of Canada will be just as impressed, ultimately leading to tremendous growth for ABBYY within the country.”
