OCR review in Industry Leading Publication Gives a Score of 4.5 out of 5; Spotlights the Solution’s Ease-of-Use, OCR Accuracy and User Interface

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today announced ABBYY FineReader® 10 Professional Edition has been named the Editor’s Choice and awarded a score of 4.5 out of 5 by PC Magazine. The solution’s ease of use, optical character recognition (OCR) accuracy, and new user interface were highlighted as features that set FineReader 10 apart from the competition.

PC Magazine found FineReader 10 Professional Edition to be exceptional when working with hard-to-read pages and in recognizing various parts of documents including text, tables or images, and producing an editable output. In addition, the magazine found FineReader 10’s Screenshot Reader application to be particularly helpful, enabling people to easily extract content from text contained within a scanned image of a document in a Web browser, eliminating the need for transcribing information by hand. Lastly, PC Magazine found FineReader 10’s interface to be extremely intuitive and easy to find all the options needed to perform complex OCR tasks.

FineReader 10 is the newest version of the professional-level OCR application, delivering best-in-class OCR functionality. The new solution delivers new generations of ABBYY’s ADRT (Adaptive Document Recognition Technology®) and Camera OCR technologies, extending FineReader 10 beyond traditional text recognition with powerful multi-page document formatting reproduction and the ability to perform OCR tasks on digital and mobile phone camera images. Additionally, FineReader 10 is capable of recognizing text in documents in 186 languages, including multi-lingual documents with any combination of languages, representing the broadest language base in available OCR applications.

“Document management is becoming a challenge for organizations as they generate increasingly high volumes of data and documentation,” said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY USA. “FineReader 10 was designed to make the transition away from paper environments easy and manageable. PC Magazine’s recognition of this solution as their Editor’s Choice validates the direction we have taken and assures users they are getting the very best in OCR technology.”
