ABBYY FineReader 4.0 Sprint Software Included with All Acer Scanners Worldwide. ABBYY FineReader OCR Software Doubles Recognition Accuracy on Poor Quality Documents

ABBYY USA, a member of the ABBYY Group, today announced a bundling agreement with Acer Peripherals, Inc. Under the agreement, Acer Peripherals will bundle ABBYY's FineReader 4.0 Sprint OCR software for both PC and Mac with all Acer scanners worldwide.

"The major factors in Acer Peripheral's selection of FineReader 4.0 Sprint were its superior OCR accuracy, outstanding page layout retention and ability to export results directly to popular applications," said Richard Park, Director for sales and marketing for Acer Peripheral America Digital Imaging Division. "Scanner users need an intuitive yet powerful OCR solution. Bundling FineReader 4.0 Sprint with Acer scanners will enable them to get the job done quicker and easier."

“We are extremely pleased that ABBYY FineReader 4.0 Sprint is highly regarded both by independent testing laboratories and by one of the world's leading computer peripheral manufacturers and suppliers – Acer Peripherals," said Sergey Andreev, CEO of ABBYY. "We are proud to partner with Acer and believe that our strategic relationship will benefit both of our companies as well as Acer's scanner users."

ABBYY FineReader 4.0 Sprint is based upon the world’s leading OCR ABBYY FineReader Engine. The same family products ABBYY FineReader Standard/Professional received 17 awards from the leading IT magazines worldwide as of November 1999. The easy-to-learn standard Windows interface is available in 8 languages, and recognizes documents in - 53 languages. FineReader supports one-button OCR (“Scan&Read”); and exports recognition results directly into MS Word, MS Excel, WordPerfect, and Word Pro or saves them in RTF or TXT formats.

FineReader's powerful OCR engine is a more accurate then competing OCR. The software’s Integral Purposeful Adaptive (IPA) perception technology combines serial and parallel character recognition techniques to increase recognition on even poor quality documents created by dot-matrix printers, typewriters, photocopiers, and fax machines.

The use of advanced syntactic and semantic natural language expert systems raises FineReader's recognition accuracy to an unprecedented level. The expertise in the morphology of certain languages further increases the recognition quality.
