Cloud-based Document Conversion Service Brings Company Sixth Consecutive Year on Esteemed List

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software and professional services, today announced that ABBYY FineReader Online has been recognized with KMWorld Magazine’s Trend-Setting Product of the Year Award for 2011, extending the company’s streak to six consecutive years of being presented with this award. FineReader Online is a cloud-based service providing users access to ABBYY’s award-winning OCR (optical character recognition) technology for document management and conversion, from anywhere, anytime.

“Each year, KMWorld recognizes innovative solutions that take knowledge management to the next level,” said Hugh McKellar, editor-in-chief of KMWorld Magazine. “As evidenced by their impressive streak, ABBYY continues to push the envelope, delivering document management and conversion solutions that deliver real value to the market. ABBYY’s effort in the cloud over the past year promises to raise the bar for solution delivery, and demonstrates the forward-thinking that has made ABBYY a repeat recipient.”

Each year, KMWorld Magazine’s judging panel, consisting of industry editors, analysts, system integrators, vendors, line-of-business managers and users, identify breakthrough products in the knowledge management industry to consider for the Trend-Setting Product of the Year award. This year the esteemed panel assessed more than 800 solutions announced during the year.

FineReader Online is a secure, cloud-based service that converts scanned or photographed images of documents into popular file formats, including Word and PDF. Leveraging the latest, award-winning ABBYY OCR technology, the solution accurately reads texts in 37 languages and supports recognition of multilingual and multi-page files, while accurately re-creates formatting elements such as bulleted and numbered lists, columns, and tables. FineReader Online requires no additional software to be installed and is accessible to any web user, no matter which PC, laptop, mobile device or operating system they use.

“This year’s recognition by KMWorld is very special to us as delivering FineReader Online to market was a significant milestone, many years in the making,” said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY USA. “As the world becomes increasingly mobile, we believe that mobile and cloud-based solutions will be the wave of the future in the knowledge management space. FineReader Online is the outcome of this vision coming to fruition, as it provides users with a way to initiate personal and businesses process, and organize their documents from anywhere, anytime.”
