ABBYY Wins Silver Star Award for its Mobile OCR SDK

ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today announced that it has won the silver Mobile Star Award™ for its Mobile Software Development Kit (MSDK), from MobileVillage®, the 15-year leader in market development and news services about mobile technology.

The seventh annual Mobile Star Awards™ program honors and promotes the top companies, products, deployments and leaders in mobile and wireless technology. Winners are chosen by subscribers to Go Mobile®, MobileVillage’s free email newsletter sent to technology executives, mobile professionals, IT managers, developers and top tech journalists.

ABBYY Mobile SDK supports developers in integrating optical character recognition (OCR) and business card recognition (BCR) functions into mobile platforms and applications, and supports various mobile phone platforms including Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile operating systems. The MSDK provides developers with straightforward tools to create innovative applications, from simple business card reading applications to complex business solutions that can be readily embedded in mobile devices including camera phones and other devices with an integrated camera.

“Despite the economic slowdown, recent studies have predicted minimal impact on the mobile and wireless industry,” said MobileVillage Editor Gary Thayer. “Mobile productivity products have proven an invaluable asset, and there is a concerted effort to build on current innovations in this area. Our winners this year are examples of true visionaries demonstrating a proactive rather than reactive approach to the mobile technology space.”

The ABBYY MSDK was designed to combine powerful recognition functions with a small software footprint to minimize the use of hardware resources and provide accurate real-time results. The MSDK includes ABBYY’s unique algorithm to automatically correct distorted images for cleaner and more consistent reproductions of images, as well as skew correction and complex multi-column layout. The MSDK now features OCR support for over 50 languages, including Asian languages, in addition to Latin, Cyrillic or Greek characters.

“The Mobile Star Awards honor the top mobile products available today, and we are very pleased to have been recognized by our peers in this way,” said Dean Tang, CEO at ABBYY USA. “This award underscores our dedication to providing the very best and most intelligent OCR and data capture solutions available, and delivering them through new and developing mediums.”
