Now Android customers can accurately digitize printed information by using the device’s camera and translate it into their native language wherever they are. Digitized and translated texts can be easily sent to friends or colleagues via e-mail and SMS, or simply transferred to other applications, social networks and online storage services via the Android ‘Share’ function.

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies and services, today announced the release of ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator for Android® in addition to its popular iOS-based version of the product. With this application, Android customers can accurately digitize printed information by using the device’s camera and translate it into their native language wherever they are. Digitized and translated texts can be easily sent to friends or colleagues via e-mail and SMS, or simply transferred to other applications, social networks and online storage services via the Android ‘Share’ function.

The ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator version for Android automatically extracts text from a variety of printed sources, or retrieves data from images stored in the device’s memory. Powered by ABBYY’s own award-winning Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for mobile platforms, it provides highly accurate on-device text recognition for 60 languages and allows users to easily edit, search and share information while on the go. When an Internet connection is available, the utility can also deliver full-text translation from 42 starting languages into 52 languages via integration with Google Translate.

“A person’s ability to efficiently operate with information locked in images and documents is a need of today, and ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator simplifies that task greatly. That is why the iOS-based version of our application has been a success on the mobile market”, commented Katya Solntseva, Director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY. “Now, the Android audience can leverage powerful optical character recognition and full-text translation, always at hand.”

By supporting the Android ‘Share’ function, the product allows customers to transfer digitized or translated materials anywhere they want in a few simple steps. A user just selects a piece of text, taps ‘Share’ and then chooses from the list of all available applications including the Facebook® and Twitter® social networks or cloud-based file storages such as Evernote®. For more convenience, the application keeps records of all recognized texts giving users the possibility to use them again when needed.

Availability

ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator for Android is available via Google Play™ (previously Android Market). The application includes English and Russian interface languages and is compatible with devices running on Android 2.2 or later.
