Digitization involves two distinct steps:

• Scanning: Creates a digital image of the document.
• Text recognition: Converts that image into machine-readable text using optical character recognition (OCR) or intelligent character recognition (ICR).

A scanned document without OCR is a digital image, not a searchable or processable document. Without OCR:

• Full-text search and data extraction are not possible.
