ABBYY Announces New OEM Agreement with EPSON America Inc.

Epson bundles ABBYY FineReader OCR software into new scanners and all-in-one devices.

ABBYY, a leader in document recognition and linguistic technologies, and Epson America, Inc., a leading provider of image capture and image output products, announced a new strategic bundling agreement. Under the first-time relationship, Epson will bundle ABBYY FineReader® 5.0 Sprint, an optical character recognition (OCR) software for both Windows and Macintosh, into its new scanners and all-in-one devices. The EPSON Perfection® 3170 PHOTO and the EPSON Perfection® 1670 PHOTO scanners along with the EPSON Stylus CX5400, the EPSON Stylus CX6400 and the EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 all offer an incredible combination of image quality, versatility and innovative photo restoration software for under $249. FineReader OCR software broadens these capabilities by enabling users to repurpose paper documents and electronic images, converting them into editable text.

FineReader Sprint is incorporated into Epson’s Smart Panel™ software, which is a comprehensive program that fully integrates all functions of the scanner and all-in-one devices into one convenient interface. Users can simply click “Edit Text” on the Smart Panel interface to start the OCR process. FineReader will automatically scan using FineReader Sprint’s OCR functionality to process the document and then send the OCR results to selected applications such as Word or Excel. Users can also run FineReader Sprint as a standalone application.
