Datacap has licensed the ABBYY FineReader Engine to add ABBYY’s advanced OCR functionality to Taskmaster 7, Datacap’s newest version of its award-winning capture and forms processing technology.

Leading Document Capture Company Extends Capabilities of Flagship Product with Worldwide Licensing Agreement

ABBYY, a leading provider of recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, and Datacap Inc., a leading document capture and forms processing software developer, today announced that Datacap has licensed the ABBYY FineReader Engine to add ABBYY’s advanced optical character recognition (OCR) functionality to Taskmaster 7, Datacap’s newest version of its award-winning capture and forms processing technology.

“We are excited to be working closely with Datacap to bring new capabilities to this market-defining application,” said Dean Tang, President and CEO of ABBYY USA. “The comprehensive document recognition and conversion capabilities offered by the ABBYY OCR engine will be a strong complement to the forms processing flexibility offered by Taskmaster 7.”

The ABBYY FineReader Engine, a common platform for all of ABBYY’s recognition technologies, gives developers everything they need to develop state-of-the-art intelligent data capture, document recognition, and document conversion systems. It provides the broadest language support, with over 190 languages for OCR, including the most recent additions of Thai and Hebrew, and 92 languages for intelligent character recognition (ICR).

In addition to its OCR, ICR, optimal mark recognition (OMR) and barcode recognition technologies, the software development kit also offers image pre- and post-processing; document layout analysis; advanced PDF conversion with support for various types and flavors of PDF, including PDF/A standard; and form processing for both fixed and semi-structured forms and documents. ABBYY FineReader Engine also delivers complete field level/zonal recognition capabilities to support such business processes as keyword classification, keyword indexing, and forms processing.

“Datacap strives to provide customers the freedom to choose from best-of-breed technologies, and this partnership with ABBYY allows us to do just that,” said Scott Blau, Datacap CEO. “We have selected ABBYY’s FineReader OCR Engine for its accuracy, stability and wide coverage of languages. We now have the flexibility to broaden the capabilities of our newest offerings with functionality that sets the bar in the marketplace.”

Datacap will integrate the ABBYY FineReader recognition technology into its products worldwide. Taskmaster 7 extends end user flexibility and further embraces SOA and .NET. Its new Rulerunner Service exposes defined capture rules via a Web Services model. Taskmaster Web is re-implemented with Microsoft .NET. All popular browsers, including Firefox and Opera, will now support the indexing and monitoring of capture workflows. Taskmaster 7 also now includes Dynamic Natural Analysis (DNA) specifically developed for invoices and other highly-variable documents. DNA eliminates set-up and enables single-pass verification for both known and unknown invoice layouts.
