iPhone Users Can Now Capture Links, Email Addresses and Phone Numbers from Everywhere On-the-Fly

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, today announced the availability of ABBYY Mobile OCR Utilities, a new series of mobile mini-applications for the Apple® iPhone®. ABBYY LinkGrabber, ABBYY MailGrabber and ABBYY PhoneGrabber each capture one specific type of contact data — a link, an email address, or a phone number respectively — and transfer them from a magazine page, an ad, or a billboard directly to the iPhone for further use. Thanks to ABBYY’s award-winning OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, automated input of data and an intuitive interface, these utilities help iPhone users to easily extract valuable information from a variety of printed materials.

ABBYY Mobiles OCR Utilities for the iPhone capture data by using the device’s camera or retrieve them from photos stored in the device’s memory. The OCR technology ensures accurate recognition of all characters that typically occur in links, email addresses, and phone numbers. Upon receiving the recognition results, a user can immediately open the captured link in a mobile web browser, dial up the new phone number or send a message using the new email address. The utilities also allow users to save newly captured data to the address book, copy them to another application, or send them via email or SMS right away. In addition, each product has a visual history of contacts which helps users to easily restore captured information and eliminates the need to keep seldom used contact data in the iPhone contact list.

“This series of mobile OCR products brings the iPhone users a new, straightforward way to automatically extract contact data from a variety of printed sources for further, broader use: links for browsing, phone numbers for dialing up and email addresses for sending emails,” said Olga Tolstunova, deputy director of the Mobile Products Department at ABBYY.

Availability

ABBYY Mobile OCR Utilities (ABBYY LinkGrabber, MailGrabber and PhoneGrabber) for the iPhone are available via the Apple AppStore, accessible through iTunes®.
