Powerful and Flexible Development Tool to Enhance Mac-based Applications with Extremely Accurate OCR Technology

ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today announced its FineReader Engine 8.0 for Mac, software development kit (SDK) designed specifically for developers working with the Mac OS® X platform. The ABBYY FineReader Engine 8.0 for Mac delivers a powerful, flexible tool to integrate optical character recognition (OCR), barcode recognition and PDF conversion functions into applications running on Mac OS X. With the new SDK, software developers working in the Macintosh® environment can take advantage of the top-ranked ABBYY OCR technology that has been licensed by many leading software and hardware providers including Canon, DICOM/Kofax, EMC/Captiva, Microsoft, Microtek, NewSoft, Notable Solutions, Samsung Electronics and more. This version of the ABBYY SDK provides native support for both Intel® and PowerPC-based Mac computers and allows creating universal binary applications.

The ABBYY FineReader Engine 8.0 for Mac delivers a wide range of document recognition functions to integrate into a variety of applications including word processors, scanning, archiving, search, document and information management, various applications for physically challenged users, and more.

The SDK is sold through Developer Licenses and Run Time Licenses, and special add-on modules are available for specific functionality. A special time-limited trial version is also available for evaluation.
