A Much-Awaited Release since the Launch of Joint Dictionary Products for Apple® iOS

ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, and Ediciones Larousse S.A. de C.V., leading Mexican dictionaries and reference content publisher, today announced the availability of a series of three new joint Android-based dictionary applications for Spanish-speaking users in North and South Americas. Combining Larousse high-grade content with ABBYY smart word look-up functionality and enjoyable user interface, Larousse Basic Spanish Dictionary, Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms, and Spanish Verb Conjugation Dictionary will help Android users to efficiently explore and navigate the land of American Spanish, with no Internet connection required.

Each of the three new applications for Android provides an extensive modern vocabulary, interactive searchable entries, and inflected word forms. Larousse Spanish Basic Dictionary offers full definitions for words and collocations widely used in American Spanish, including their synonyms, antonyms, usage area and examples. The Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms contains Latin America’s local terms and other words labeled in accordance with their regional usage. The Spanish Verb Conjugation Dictionary delivers to the Android users an impressive collection of inflected forms of verbs for all tenses and persons.

The new mobile applications also provide an easy access to dictionary entries, which can be viewed as detailed or brief content cards. Furthermore, they include a set of font size settings for both the word list and displayed cards, and, for greater user convenience, store the history of recent searches.

“We are inspired to keep on working with such a forward-looking partner as Larousse Mexico and welcome every opportunity to introduce products based on an alliance of premium content and modern technologies to the mobile world”, commented Erokhina Natalia, Business development manager for Latin America at ABBYY. “We are happy to know that, starting with this release in the Americas, Spanish-speaking Android customers meet new opportunities for successful communication”.

"In Larousse, we are very proud to work in collaboration with ABBYY and apply all their expertise, technological know-how and advanced tools to improve the customer experience", commented Tomás García Cerezo, editorial director at Larousse Mexico. "Both, ABBYY and Larousse, are market leaders in different segments, and it´s a big opportunity to complement each other to create a great and useful product, now for Android platform too."
