ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, and Ediciones Larousse S.A. de C.V., leading Mexican dictionaries and reference content publisher, today announced a development partnership to provide iOS users in North and South Americas with a series of four truly smart Spanish dictionary applications. Larousse Spanish Basic Dictionary, Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms, Spanish Verb Conjugation Dictionary and Dictionary of Biographies combine Larousse premium content, enjoyable user interface, and powerful functionality, cutting-edge mobile dictionary software. Comprehensive and easy-to-use, they will be of great use and help to language learners, enthusiasts and professionals around the world.
New joint dictionary applications provide iOS users with rich up-to-date vocabulary, searchable entries and multiple word usage examples. Larousse Spanish Basic Dictionary delivers detailed definitions in Spanish for words, collocations and idioms frequently used in Spanish-speaking countries. The Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms offers a comprehensive thesaurus containing – in addition to other words marked with regional labels – Latin America’s local terms. About 5 000 most common Spanish verbs with inflected forms for all tenses and persons can be easily found in the Spanish Verb Conjugation Dictionary. Furthermore, with the Dictionary of Biographies, iOS users can enjoy illustrated entries about life and works of most prominent historical figures of Mexico and the whole world.
“We are excited to announce this project with such a world famous publisher as Ediciones Larousse Mexico, and expect it to evolve into a long-term partnership to provide the mobile market with a bunch of new powerful joint products”, commented Olga Tolstunova, Sales & Marketing Director at ABBYY.
Each of the four joint applications delivers exceptionally easy ways to access dictionary entries. With support of morphology, iOS users can type a word in any grammar form into the search field to view a relevant entry – or a list of near-matches, if this word was accidentally misspelled. The iOS users also can copy an unfamiliar word into the clipboard (e.g. when reading an e-book or a Website) and look up a corresponding entry instantly with the start of the program, without manual typing. Additionally, Larousse Spanish Basic Dictionary and Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms both ensure most convenient way to look up words by photographing them with the iPhone camera, even when on the go.
“We find our cooperation with ABBYY truly beneficial for people who speak or learn Spanish around the world,” commented Tomás García Cerezo, editorial director at Larousse Mexico. “We are glad to bring our dictionary applications based on powerful ABBYY technologies to the fast-growing Apple iOS audience. Now they can easily work with high-quality content in most convenient and enjoyable way using their mobile phones.”
