Version 3.0 expands the basic functionality of the application — capture of data from business cards and saving it to the mobile address book — with new features such as the ability to search for information about new contacts across popular social and business networks and Google Maps. The new unique functions of the application together allow business users to streamline contact management and reduce time spent on manual entry.

ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, today announced Business Card Reader 3.0 for the iPhone®, the next evolution of its business card reading and contact management application. Version 3.0 expands the basic functionality of the application — capture of data from business cards and saving it to the mobile address book — with new features such as the ability to search for information about new contacts across popular social and business networks and Google Maps™. The new unique functions of the application together allow business users to streamline contact management and reduce time spent on manual entry.

ABBYY Business Card Reader 3.0 for the iPhone automatically transfers key information from business cards directly to the iPhone address book, allowing users to not only create new contact records, but also efficiently update existing ones. Leveraging the iPhone’s camera and ABBYY’s text recognition technology, the application intelligently locates each type of contact information (e.g. name, phone numbers, e-mail, etc.) on a card and saves it into proper data fields. Additionally, ABBYY Business Card Reader reads text in 17 languages including multilingual business cards.

“We try to understand and anticipate practical needs and preferences of our customers,” said Olga Tolstunova, deputy director of the Mobile Products Department at ABBYY. “As a result, the new version of our business card reading solution for the iPhone expands users’ opportunities beyond traditional contact management. Its users can find and collect thorough information about a contact literally on the go.”

ABBYY Business Card Reader 3.0 for the iPhone allows mobile workers to quickly learn more about a company or individual, via the ability to search across social networks such as Twitter®, LinkedIn® and Facebook® directly from within the application. This capability provides mobile workers with insight into the contacts they make beyond what is included on their business card. The application also allows the user to look up a new address captured from a business card with Google Maps without requiring it to be saved in the mobile address book.

Version 3.0 further simplifies work with the application by highlighting uncertain characters in the captured text, eliminating the need to visually check all the data. In addition, it now comes with a new intuitive interface to bring more convenience, ease and joy of using the application.

Availability

ABBYY Business Card Reader 3.0 for the iPhone is available immediately via the Apple AppStore (accessible through iTunes®). The supported devices include the Apple® iPhone 4, 3GS and iPhone 3G (OS 3.1 or later) with close-up lenses.

Available soon will be an updated free trial version of the application. It will allow users to capture all data on a business card, preview the results on a phone’s display, and search information in Facebook.
