ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today announced the availability of Lingvo x3, the latest generation of electronic dictionaries, for U.S.-based consumers. ABBYY Lingvo x3 significantly expands ABBYY's linguistic products by combining reliable content, powerful word look-up and intuitive software into a single product. By leveraging ABBYY's long history and expertise in linguistic technology and dictionary interface design, ABBYY Lingvo x3 makes it easily accessible and truly convenient for consumers to communicate in various languages.

ABBYY has teamed up with leading dictionary publisher Oxford University Press, to ensure accurate and reliable word translations. Lingvo x3 offers word translations from English into French, Spanish, Russian, simplified Chinese, Italian, German and back in various combinations.

"At Oxford University Press we are committed to providing people of all ages and language ability levels with the educational materials they need to thrive," said Evan Schnittman, vice president at Oxford University Press, USA Division. "By working with ABBYY to provide our content through Lingvo x3 we are able to pursue another avenue to provide our information and maintain our reputation for being a scholarly authority."

Designed to meet the needs of U.S. consumers, Lingvo x3 is offered in both individual language pairs and in a multi-lingual combination.

"Today, all of us are part of a growing global community and it is becoming more and more crucial that people have the ability to communicate across a variety of languages, whether for business, education or with personal friends," said Dean Tang, CEO of ABBYY USA. "ABBYY Lingvo x3 makes communications easier by giving users access to native translations of languages through the most intuitive and customizable software possible."

ABBYY Lingvo is designed for easy, quick word look-up to avoid interrupting the user's workflow. Word look-up functions range from "instant" translation via a Pop-up dialogue to advanced full-text search. When working in other applications such as Microsoft® Word or a Web browser, users can get quick "instant" translations in a popup dialogue without leaving the application. For additional convenience, Lingvo x3 also provides a toolbar link to Wikipedia and other Internet searches for finding additional information on a given word and to learn more about its use in the native environment. ABBYY Lingvo x3 also provides audio pronunciations of keywords recorded for ABBYY by native speakers to ensure that users are accessing the most accurate translations possible.

ABBYY Lingvo's powerful search functionality and comprehensive dictionary database are enhanced by its intuitive and flexible interface which adds greater ease to work with languages. The Windows-like interface provides quick access to product functionality via flexible toolbars and drop-down menus, allowing users to keep word translation windows open while working in a document or viewing a Web site. This easy to use interface allows consumers to focus less on figuring out how to make a translation technology work, and more on getting true benefit from the communications they are translating material for.

ABBYY Lingvo x3 products are available in "bilingual pairs" and "multilingual sets" ranging from $79.99 to $149.99. Fully-functional 15-day trial versions of Lingvo x3 and additional information can be found at
