ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today proudly announced that it received the quarterly Innovative Leadership Award from Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, for the successful deployment of ABBYY FlexiCapture technology to one of the nation’s largest aerospace companies. The Fujitsu quarterly Innovative Leadership Award recognizes independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs and IHVs) that leverage imaging products to streamline and optimize business processes to positively impact their customers’ bottom line.

“Fujitsu is pleased to present the Innovative Leadership Award to ABBYY USA,” said Tom Loeffler, director, business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “Working with ABBYY helps us meet the needs of our customers and resolve their document management issues with collaborative hardware and software solutions.”

“ABBYY has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Fujitsu and is honored to receive this award,” said Joe Budelli, Vice President of Business Development, ABBYY USA. “Winning this award signifies the problem-solving nature of the document management solutions our companies offer to the market at large, and in particular, to this aerospace organization, whose order processing department was previously deluged with thousands of pages of paper.”

“Today, in order to remain competitive, organizations need to continually review business processes to ensure that they maximize organizational efficiency,” said Neal Fischer, president, Hershey Technologies, the San Diego-based ABBYY integrator of document capture solutions that worked on the deployment with the aerospace company. “Order processing and accounts payable processing tasks are typical high value, high transaction, and high labor processing tasks that gain tremendous efficiency from intelligent document recognition technologies.”

Recently, Hershey was commissioned to conduct a study of leading intelligent OCR classification providers by the aerospace company, who sought to streamline its order processing business practice. This business unit processes government contracts, the volume of which can range from 100,000 to 200,000 pages a month, and 50- to 150-page contracts are the norm. The intelligent document recognition solution they sought had to automatically capture the paper contracts, accurately identify (classify) different types of contracts and sections of contracts, then extract specific causes and contract line-item details that often spanned multiple pages. The system also needed the ability to scale and automate other paper-based manual processes such as accounts payable, and employee travel and expense claim payments.

After reviewing several solutions, Hershey proposed an integration with an existing Kofax Ascent Capture distributed capture architecture system, combined with a number of Fujitsu desktop and workgroup scanners, including the fi-5650, fi-5750 and fi-4530 models that will utilize ABBYY Form Reader with FlexiCapture Studio. The first phase involving order processing has already been implemented and the next phase with accounts payable is already underway.
